Army veteran Ed Fisher has created a haven for fellow veterans wounded in the line of duty. Located in Oswayo, PA, this 140-acre retreat is a place for combat vets to experience guided hunts, fishing, and other outdoor activities, along with their families. In the five years that the L-E-E-K Hunting and Mountain Preserve has been in existence, they’ve helped more than 120 veterans create a stronger bond with the natural world.
The organization is run with 100 percent volunteer efforts – from Ed and his wife to the folks who show up to take a warrior hunting or fishing. Ed said this past deer season, they were able to provide a hunt for a young female veteran who had been injured in a horrific accident. Now a quadriplegic, the woman had been hunting as a girl, but had never filled her deer tag. She did this past season, with her caregiver and two guides at her side. Ed said she’ll be back because the experience thrilled her.
